Team C.C.CThe C.C.C team consists of six students from Mission Heights Primary and Mission Heights Junior College. They will be representing New Zealand in the Junior Division of Community Problem Solving competition in La Crosse. The CCC team noted the extensive use of technology in their school and wanted to promote responsible behavior in cyberspace to all students and the local community. They contacted agencies that have a stake in cyber safety such as Netsafe, Gen-i and Hector's World. All offered advice advice and information for the team. C.C.C held a community meeting for parents in their local community to tell them about their project but to also offer advice to them about how to promote positive cyber use at home. The team have also been teaching junior classes, using the Hector's World resources as a way of presenting themselves as positive role models. They believe that by getting children as young as five being safe digital citizens, the children will grow up in a healthy cyber environment. Before the team heads off to the International Finals, they still have a lot of work on their project. They have been invited to present with Hector's World at the Learning At School conference in February, which they are excited to be doing. They will also be implementing a Digital Citizenship Week where resources and skills as well as the positive use of technology will be promoted. Alongside the ICT manager of the schools, they will be establishing a helpline (both email and texting version) that students will be able to forward any disturbing messages to and can then be dealt with appropriately. The final step of their project is to mentor other senior primary students and schools to become Hector's schools. By sharing their own knowledge, understanding and learning about cyber citizenship with others, they will truly be a addressing a community problem. ![]() |
